UK facing four major cyber attacks every week: What it means for your business
The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has revealed a stark rise in cyber threats, handling 204 nationally significant cyber attacks in the past year, up from 89 the year before. That’s an average of four major incidents every week.
These attacks aren’t just background noise of course, attacks on M & S, Jaguar and the Co-op have made national headlines.
18 were classified as “highly significant”, meaning they had the potential to disrupt essential services like energy, transport, and communications. Many of these incidents were linked to Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) actors, including nation-state groups and sophisticated criminal organisations.
“Cyber security is now a matter of business survival and national resilience,” said Dr Richard Horne, Chief Executive of the NCSC. “Hesitation is a vulnerability, and the future of your business depends on the action you take today.”
