FloodAlerts shortlisted for National Innovation Award by the IET

Article published by Shropshire Live on 11th October

FloodAlerts, from Shropshire-based software and data specialists, Shoothill Ltd, has been short listed as a finalist in the UK IT Industry Awards for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and The Institution of Engineering and Technology Innovation Awards for Information Technology. This comes hot on the heels of a high profile win in the The Guardian and Virgin Media Business’ 2012 Innovation Nation Awards.

FloodAlerts, is a unique application that takes real-time flood data, from over 1800 Environment Agency monitoring stations throughout England and Wales, and displays this data on an interactive map, updating and warning its users when they, their premises or the routes they need to travel could be at risk of flooding.

Launched originally as the world’s first Facebook flood warning app, the service was expanded to its own site, floodalerts.com. The Service is available free to individuals, and can also be provided as a customised risk management solution to businesses that require infrastructure safety monitoring. The FloodAlerts service is the only one of its kind and provides the most up-to-date picture of the flooding situation at any given time, hence the reason why the Environment Agency has recently licensed the service to embed in its own website, which is generally the first stop for anyone needing accurate information on where water levels are rising or receding.

Shoothill Managing Director, Rod Plummer, said: We are delighted to have received further recognition for FloodAlerts, in the shape of these latest award nominations, and look forward to the announcement of the final results at the award ceremonies in November. Being shortlisted as a finalist for these two awards is also especially pleasing as this year we have been up against particularly tough competition, with over 800 companies having entered for these two awards alone. All credit goes to the team at Shoothill for their on-going dedication and hard work.
