Delivering

Delivering messages, dodging scams.

SMS is becoming an increasingly popular feature in business software, and for good reason. With open rates often exceeding 90%, it’s one of the most direct and effective ways to reach customers. Whether it’s appointment reminders, promotional offers or service updates, SMS delivers speed and engagement that few other channels can match.

At Shoothill, we’re seeing more clients integrate SMS into their bespoke platforms, from customer portals to mobile apps, making it a valuable part of their digital strategy.

But with Christmas approaching, it’s important to stay alert.

According to a recent report in The Independent, fraudsters are using devices known as SMS blasters to send scam texts that appear to come from trusted organisations. These messages often claim you need to pay a small fee to release a parcel, and they spike during the festive season when deliveries are at their peak.

Now we often know that these are scams – but with life getting hectic over the festive period. It’s easy to see how people fall victim and therefore give cyber criminals the keys to your finances and accounts.

Clicking on these links can lead to phishing websites designed to steal personal and financial information. This poses a serious risk not only to individuals but also to businesses, especially if company devices or accounts are compromised.

How to protect yourself and your business:

  • Avoid clicking on links in unexpected or suspicious texts.
  • Forward scam messages to 7726 (a free reporting service).
  • Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been targeted.
  • Report incidents to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Shoothill continues to build secure, compliant software platforms that help businesses make the most of SMS—while staying protected against emerging threats. If you’re considering adding SMS functionality to your system, or want advice on secure implementation, we’re here to help.

Stay safe. Stay connected. Stay informed.
