Windows 10 1

Windows 10 is ending and your business can’t afford to wait

On October 14, 2025, Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10. That means no more security updates, no more bug fixes, and no more technical support. Yet, over 400 million devices globally are still running Windows 10, including more than half of all business PCs.

If your organisation is still relying on Windows 10, it’s time to act. The risks of staying put are no longer theoretical — they’re real, costly, and increasingly visible.

Cybersecurity wake-up call: Jaguar Land Rover & Co-op

Article content

Two major UK brands have recently suffered devastating cyberattacks:

  • Jaguar Land Rover was forced to shut down production for over a month, losing £50 million per week and requiring a £1.5 billion government loan to stabilise operations. Hackers exploited outdated systems and stole sensitive data, including employee records and source code.
  • The Co-op Group lost £206 million in revenue after a ransomware attack exposed the personal data of 6.5 million members. The breach disrupted supply chains, emptied shelves, and forced manual operations across stores.

Often incidents like these aren’t caused by negligence, they are the result of legacy systems and unpatched vulnerabilities. Staying on Windows 10 after support ends puts your business in the same danger zone.

Is your hardware at risk?

Article content

Windows 11 requires:

  • TPM 2.0 chip
  • Secure Boot
  • A compatible processor (Intel 8th Gen or newer, AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer)

Up to 40% of Windows 10 PCs don’t meet these requirements, meaning millions of devices are now ineligible for upgrade and must be replaced or risk exposure.

If your office PCs were purchased before 2018, they may already be out of date. Shoothill’s compatibility checker can help you assess your fleet and plan your upgrade.

What happens after October 14th?

If you stay on Windows 10:

  • You’ll stop receiving security updates
  • Your systems will be vulnerable to malware and ransomware
  • You may fall out of compliance with GDPR and cyber insurance policies
  • New software and hardware may no longer be supported

Even with antivirus software, unpatched operating systems are prime targets for attackers.
